In recent years, there has been a remarkable progress in the continuous development of single-photon sources in terms of fabrication, performance and durability. One of the efforts is conducted using plasmonic cavities, which represents a solution to improve the fluorescence emission of a single nanocrystal by taking advantage of the Purcell effect and the coupling between the exciton and the surface plasmons polaritons in the structure.

In this work we use luminescence colloidal CdSe/CdS nanocrystals in a core/shell structure with 3-nm core diameter and 5-nm shell thickness as source of light in a plasmonic patch-antenna. The patch-antenna consists of a metal-insulator-metal configuration where a single nanoemitter is positioned between two metallic layers using in-situ optical lithographic techniques (Figure 1). In our protocol we are able to position an optically thin gold nanodisk just above a single nanoemitter to modify the local density of states (LDOS). More precisely, by comparing the photoluminescence emission before and after the coupling of the emitter with the patch-antenna we can account for enhancement or inhibition of spontaneous emission depending of the orientation of the emitter.
