We present a phase field model for isothermal transformations of two component alloys and step dynamics in Molecular Beam Epitaxy. The model includes Onsager kinetic cross coupling between the non-conserved phase field φ and the conserved concentration field C. We also provide the reduction of the phase field model to the corresponding macroscopic description of the free boundary problem. The relevance of the newly introduced terms to Ehrlich-Schwoebel effect and to the step-bunching instability in MBE is discussed and numerically confirmed.
